Frequently Asked Questions
Below is a compilation of most commonly asked questions and information we discuss with new clients.
Why hire or use a private investigator in a criminal case?
Hiring or using an experienced private investigator allows the defense to get an extra set of eyes and different perspectives about scenarios, alleged statements, and uncovering possible witnesses and facts that Detectives either overlooked or ignored. Experienced private investigators will want to exhaust all efforts, in order to help establish a solid defense, or help reduce the possible amount of time a client might be facing.
Are all private investigators former law enforcement?
No. Not all private investigators are former law enforcement. Former law enforcement officers turned private investigators might know the system, but they do not always make the best choice to hire. Many clients and possible witnesses will never trust or feel comfortable around law enforcement officers, or former law enforcements, simply because of their former roles. Do not be afraid to ask. Experience and compatibility matter.
Do private investigators speak for the attorneys?
No. Private investigators are not attorneys, nor are they allowed to offer any legal advice. They can relay messages, but should not and cannot answer any legal questions. Attorneys advise, and when partnered with an experienced investigator they both gather all the necessary tools the client will need to make the decision as to whether to go to trial or attempt working the case out. The legal team works together to get what is best for the client.
